Opposed Piston Calipers

AP Braking opposed piston calipers may be seen on a wide variety of vehicle applications. They are essential where a high braking performance is required. Current applications include 4 x 4, light commercial, high performance and taxicabs.

Opposed piston calipers are more efficient than sliding calipers :

AP Braking provides a total design solution to meet individual customer requirements. Body materials vary from aluminium alloy, for lightweight applications, to SG cast iron, for extra strength. Where extra installation protection is required, for example on 4 x 4 applications, fluid transfer is by cross-drilled holes within the body. Where transmitted heat is excessive, for example on high-performance vehicles, an external bridge transfer pipe is employed.

Other options include piston materials, dirt boots or wiper seals, piston sizes from 38mm to 51mm, pad materials, mounting options and disc design.

Calipers are available with 2, 4 and 6 pistons.

Engineering Technology

The latest 3D CAE technology is fully utilised in the design and development of opposed piston calipers.

AP Braking Design use parametric 3D CAD software to engineer new products with ultimate flexibility and to achieve customer lead times. The CAD model is the basis for early development work including FEA and rapid prototyping.

Vehicle and rig testing ensure that our opposed piston calipers are suitable for the harshest environments and capable of high endurance.

Extensive test programs for refinement ensures that customers do not feel any brake related discomfort such as noise and judder.
